FujiFilm X-T3

The 4th generation mirrorless evolution

FujiFilm X-T3 2018

Earlier this month, on 6 September 2018, FujiFilm announced their 4th generation mirrorless camera, the X-T3. The new 26MP APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor on the X-T3 is coupled with an X-Processor 4 imaging engine. The new sensor's native sensitivity is rated at ISO 160 — 12,800, expandable to ISO 80 — 51,200.

The low-light autofocus limit has also been extended by two stops from -1EV on the X-T2 to -3EV on the X-T3. Thanks to the new X-Processor, XT-3 auto-focus performance is improved dramatically with enhanced face/eye detection. The X-T3 has a much more sophisticated 425-point AF system, which works across the entire frame.

Video performance support 4K/60P 4:2:0 10bit internal SD card recording as well as 4K/60P 4:2:2 10bit HDMI output, which can be filmed at the same time.

X-T3 viewfinder is 0.5in, 3.69-million-dot with magnification ratio of 0.75x with improved display time lag of just 0.005 seconds and refresh rate of 100fps, supporting Sports finder mode. Unlike it's predecessor, continuous shooting at 11fps with the mechanical shutter no longer requires the use of a battery grip, and blackout-free continuous shooting at up to 30fps is available when the camera’s electronic shutter is activated.

Another new feature is the Color Chrome Effect, previously available only on the Fujifilm’s medium-format mirrorless GFX50S. It’s intended to produce richer colors and long gradation. The display on the X-T3 is a 3inches, 1.04-million-dot touchscreen.

The newly-developed X-Processor 4 processing engine now support “monochrome adjustment” function for the Film Simulation modes, which are based on Fujifilm's proprietary technology to deliver diverse color expressions. “Warm black and cool black”, is used to represent warm colors and cool colors when producing a B/W print from silver-halide film, have been faithfully reproduced digitally to broaden the scope of monochromatic expressions. This function is available in the standard “Monochrome” mode as well as the “ACROS” mode, famous for smooth tones, deep black and beautiful textures.
