Inspired from it's 2017 and 2018 thematic contests, jointly run in partnership with New York’s “the International Center of Photography” (ICP), Huawei launched the World's First Co-Judged by Artificial Intelligence Photo Contest called “Spark a Renaissance”, inspiring discussions and controversies amongst photographers and industry journalists.
The Contest will run from 12th July to 6th September 2018 and will feature 5 weekly photographic themes.
A New Renaissance — 12th to 20th July 2018 — photos should reinterpret or recreate Renaissance art and could be based around Renaissance themes including portraits, realism, landscape, light and classical mythology.
After Dark — 24th July to 1st August 2018 — photos should showcase low light photography or almost complete darkness with a focus upon detail, and contrast.
Deep in Detail — 5th to 13th August 2018 — photos should feature close up photography, with an aim of bringing the photography subject closer without compromising on image quality.
Moment in Time — 17th to 25th August 2018 — photos should aim to capture movement and action whilst keeping the image crisp and detailed.
Wide Eyed World — 29th August to 6th September 2018 — photos should be centered around landscapes and city-scapes.
P20 Pro Competition: All valid contest entries received during each Weekly Period will be judged instantly by an Artificial Intelligence program to provide a score out of 100 based on the following criteria (the “AI Criteria”):
- The overall balance of elements within the composition.
- The colour harmony within the image.
- Whether the image is well lit.
- If the rule of thirds has been followed.
- The vividness of the colours.
- Whether the image subject is in focus.
- Whether the image doesn’t feature any jitter or shakiness.
We have trained the AI in our Huawei P20 Pro smartphone to understand what makes an amazing photo. This innovation is helping us to identify emerging creative talent across Europe and showcase their photography potential to others.
