Panasonic Lumix S
L-mount Full-Frame Mirrorless Debut
Announced by Panasonic's Yosuke Yamane at Photokina 2018, Lumix S1R and S1 are the two new full-frame mirrorless cameras, which will be released early in 2019 with more than 10 L-mount lenses to be released by 2020.
The new Lumix S system, has been developed in partnership with Leica and Sigma in the recently formed L-Mount Alliance trio, with the cameras featuring Leica’s L mount, which is already used on some of Leica’s existing bodies, such as the SL.
Lumix S cameras will feature image stabilization in the camera body and lens, high shutter speeds, and 4K video at 60fps.
The new full-frame system is a departure from Panasonic’s 'G' series, which uses much smaller Four Thirds sensors, which marks 10 years in 2018 since the launch of the Lumix G1 in 2008, the world’s first mirrorless camera, which is credited as kicking off the entire sector.
